Ian McWalter graduated in law from the London School of Economics in 1977 and is a Chartered Loss Adjuster (fellow). He is in his 38th year of loss adjusting, having entered the profession in 1978 in the UK. In 1989, he returned to Australia and joined Technical Assessing Pty Ltd in 1991, where he was a director and shareholder. In 2011 he left to set up FT Adjusting, which specialises in Construction and Engineering claims arising under Contract Works, Professional Indemnity and Product and Public Liability policies.
After specialising in Construction and Engineering claims for the last 23 years, Ian has dealt with all classes of cases – from building collapses to major infrastructure claims, and claims against building consultants, architects, engineers and construction companies.
Ian has been actively involved with the loss adjusting institute AICLA (and formerly the Australasian division of CILA till its merger with AICLA in 1997) since its inception, having previously held the position of Education Director, International Development Director and President. He has also been a member of the Academic Council for ANZIIF, AICLA’s educational service provider.
